NBA preview 17-21 May 2024

The identity of the teams advancing into the Conference Finals of the NBA Playoffs will be revealed for DStv viewers on ESPN this week.

This week's NBA Playoff action gets underway on the morning of Friday 17 May with Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinal clash between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets (with a possible Game 7 on Sunday 19 May).

Denver coach Michael Malone is backing his team to keep on fighting, regardless of the situation they find themselves in.

"They were quick to write us off, but these guys, we won a championship a year ago. We went into Miami [in the 2023 NBA Finals], won two games in a row. This team has been tested time and time again, and we found a way to solve whatever's been thrown at us," said Malone.

"What I found about our group is that they do believe in themselves. And more importantly, they believe in the man next to them. We have a group that is acting as you would hope a championship team would act."

Friday morning will also feature Game 6 between the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference (with a possible Game 7 on the evening of Sunday 19 May).

Jalen Brunson is the key man for the Knicks, with Pacers guard TJ McConnell noting that his team is doing all they can to keep the former Dallas Mavericks player under wraps.

"His ascension to what he's become as a player, not many people have made a jump quite like him and I think we just need to make him work as much as possible and try to exert as much energy [as you can]," said McConnell. "He's obviously a great player, and we just got to keep picking him up 94 feet and try to make things tough on him."

The morning of Sunday 19 May will feature a Game 6 clash between the Dallas Mavericks and the Oklahoma City Thunder (with a possible Game 7 on the morning of Tuesday 21 May).

Thunder coach Mark Daigneault wants his team to continue enduring the discomfort of Playoff matches and just keep themselves in the fight.

“I thought our ability just to endure the early punches, and just not able to get back in the game for a long time, our ability to endure that was big time," noted Daigneault.
