The brand-new Korean entertainment pop-up channel tVN (DStv channel 134) launches on Monday, 1 March, to bring you all the K-Drama and K-Pop excitement you’ve been seeing on social media.
For drama series lovers, the brilliant Canadian series, Coroner, is back with intriguing cases and a work family you’ll love being a part of. And there’s so much love to share with three brand-new telenovelas bringing you heroines to adore and villains to hiss at.
There’s no shortage of shoot-’em-up action either with Keanu Reeves’ meme-worthy series of John Wick action movies coming to DStv Family this March. And there are also brand-new series like Elliott from Earth for the kids to enjoy along with intriguing educational content about North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and ancient Egypt, both from National Geographic (DStv channel 181).
Introducing K-Pop Up channel tVN
The brand-new Korean entertainment pop-up channel tVN (DStv channel 134), launches on Monday, 1 March, with a host of dramas, comedies, action shows and supernatural fantasy series along with two K-Pop reality series that will make you a K-stan if you haven’t already been swept up in the global phenomenon yet. The channel will be available for four months, and all series will be shown from start to end, some dubbed into English in the US, and others with English subtitles. Check out what’s to come:
Cheese In The Trap S1This romantic comedy based on the online anime features English subtitles. A poor university student Hong Seol returns to campus after a break and romance blossoms when she captures the attention of a seemingly perfect but manipulative student named Jung after they keep running into each other in a series of unfortunate encounters.

March’s special series
The big news this month is that Coroner is back with exciting new episodes as the team takes on the global pandemic. Procedural fans can stay tuned for both NCIS and NCIS New Orleans. And if all this teamwork is making you miss working with your colleagues, keep watching because Superstore’s new season will have you in stitches.
The season starts in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic with Jenny and her colleagues at the coroner’s office, including new pathologist Melanie (Uni Park), thoroughly overwhelmed by the flood of bodies – not all of whom were victims of the virus. In her personal life Jenny, who’s now single again, will embrace some unusual therapies as she gets to grips with her past trauma. And Detective Donovan will have to come to terms with his own looming health crisis.

NCIS New Orleans S5
This pre-COVID 2018-2019 season picks up where S4’s three-episode season finale left off with Pride (Scott Bakula) in the ICU and would-be assassin and ex-CIA agent Amelia Parsons looking to finish him off. Coming up this season, Pride is up for promotion and Agent Hannah Khoury (Necar Zadegan) takes charge of the team. Both Pride and LaSalle have to deal with daddy issues and Pride will also have to come to terms with his father’s death later in the season. And there are two major bombing incidents in the city.

S15 ended with a cliffhanger when Sloane’s captor from her days in Afghanistan kidnapped Director Vance. S16 starts with Gibbs having to take over as acting director of NCIS while the team searches for Vance. Halfway through this season, we’ll learn that a member of the team isn’t dead and she'll pop up right at the end of the season. And Gibbs has a dangerous confession to make to his team about what happened to the man who killed his wife and his daughter.

The Cloud 9 discount superstore is open for business. While the staff try to get Matteo back from the ICE agents who’re trying to deport him, the corporate overlords make their lives even more difficult by sending them a robot floor cleaner. Corporate is on the lookout for any signs of unionisation because heaven forbid the workers organise and demand basic healthcare, working hours and wages. And the workers are on the lookout to see which of them could be a serial killer.

Reality means real families and real issues
DStv Family’s March reality shows are all about family and the challenges we face together. You’ll get a window into so many different types of lives and struggles – it’s like being a fly on the wall with the most fascinating neighbours on your street.
There are people living off the grid in Alaska: The New Pioneers, local celebrity life with Zodwa Wabantu Uncensored and Madam & Mercy, international celebs with Waka & Tammy and the Growing Up Hip Hop kids.
Even the church peels back the mask in the confrontational series, AmaBishop. And we’ll look into the lives of little people, morbidly obese people, polygamist families and ex-prisoners. Zodwa Wabantu Uncensored S2Zodwa is on a mission to build a lasting legacy for her son. This season, she’s trying to catch up with having made a late start and while she works to secure his future, Zodwa also sets out to take care of herself, embarking on a spiritual journey to reconnect with her roots. But this is still the same Zodwa, raw and unfiltered and embracing the hustle to survive 2020-2021. She will also be meeting with sex workers to get to understand them without prejudice.

Madam & Mercy S1Evodia Mogase – better known as Madam – and her daughter, Mercy, kept viewers laughing in season 1 of The Real Housewives of Johannesburg. Their very own 13-episode reality show is an invitation to hop onboard as they fly by private jet, join them in the fitting room as they update their fabulous wardrobes, and even go inside their homes for sensitive family lobola negotiations. And because it takes cash to look this flash, Madam and Mercy will also invite viewers into their daily struggle as entrepreneurs.

AmaBishop S1While the church can be a pillar of the community, with the wrong character at the pulpit, it can become a predator. South African news is full of church scandals, from pastors taking sexual advantage of churchgoers, to those who twist the scriptures, and others who’re dipping their fists in the charity bag. AmaBishop is calling a roundtable of church leaders together to ask some hard questions about the issues bedevilling Christianity in South Africa, and how we can make leaders accountable for their actions.

Ufelani S5Ufelani is one of Moja Love’s most devastating original series. This true-crime re-enactment show explores the terror of victims and survivors of domestic violence. Often deadly explosions of violence are recreated by performers, based on witness testimony and police reports. In previous seasons, the show has dealt strong blows to audiences through its chilling, visceral portrayals of abuse. Ufelani asks the question “What are you dying for?” as it shows us the results of staying in dangerous relationships and identifies the warning signs.

Mamazala S7Dingaan Mokebe kaKhumalo is back playing negotiator and peace-maker for in-laws who’re having issues with each other. Whether it’s about inheritance, custody of the children, or how people are being treated and treating other, the host tackles it all. If you thought our favourite soapie characters had family problems, you should see what these folk are up to. Dingaan has to sort through everything from accusations of witchcraft, to private couple problems that have gotten blown out of proportion and become everyone’s business.

Uyaphuza S3Our Perfect Wedding star Nomsa Buthelezi continues the battle against alcoholism in South Africa in the reality series Uyaphuza. She’ll be offering those in need a platform to get the help they want, as the show educates the audience about the signs and effects of alcohol abuse, through real human stories. It’s all about encouraging people to seek help and sympathetic interventions rather than scolding and blame. After 2020’s alcohol bans, we can’t wait to see how this is affecting the stories that Nomsa brings us.

It’s a feast of fun for the imagination, and there’s learning along the way too, with the Siyaya kids who are taking us back to nature.
Elliott From Earth S1This science fiction animated comedy for kids, from the creative team of The Amazing World of Gumball, follows human boy Elliott and his mom, Frankie (an awesome geologist), as they embark on an unexpected journey across the universe aboard the spaceship Centrium, which is packed with amazing beings from all over the galaxies. Soon, Elliott makes a new best friend, a dinosaur named Mo who lives in Biosphere 1138 aboard the Centrium.
