Kingdom

David Attenborough narrates this six-episode BBC wildlife drama centred on four animal families living in the Nsefu Valley of Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. Olimba the leopard is raising her cubs when wild dog queen Storm and her pack enter her territory, along with a returning pride of lions who target local hyena matriarch Tenta and her clan. Filmed across five years, it captures every epic twist and turn of the animals’ interconnected lives, in an African Game of Thrones.

Ghost Elephants

Oscar-nominated director Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man) follows South African naturalist and National Geographic Explorer Dr Steve Boyes, his film partner Kerllen Costa (the team behind Into the Okavango and the award-winning podcast Guardians of the River) and their San guides on a 10-year quest to track an elusive, nocturnal, and silent herd of elephants that have become a local legend in the remote highland plateaus of Angola – a place they call the Land at the End of the Earth.

Venom Files: Anatomy of a Snake Bite

Filmed in South Africa, this documentary goes into the race for survival between snakes and their prey that drives the production of their venom. While over five million people per year report snake bites, humans aren’t any snake’s preferred food or traditional enemy. Find out why each snake bite is different, and what venom and how it works can teach us about snake species, including the black mamba, taipan, puff adder, saw-scaled viper, spitting cobra, and boomslang.

There’s no passport needed as we explore six continents in search of unusual getaways. Host Ruthie Henshall takes us behind the scenes, too, to chat to the craftsmen and architects who thought out every detail, including maintenance, and the staff who have to tackle the logistics of everyday operations, like getting supplies to a hidden oasis in the UAE’s Empty Quarter, or the summit of Mount Pilatus in Switzerland. Decoding History’s Prophecies

Historians and scholars examine claims made by some of the world’s legendary mystics, healers, hoaxers and prophets, from the ancient to the modern world. Each episode features dramatic reenactments of three gripping tales. As well as the usual suspects like Nostradamus and Rasputin, the series features the poet Macha’s horrifying vision at Houska Castle in Czechia, China’s Oracle Bones and the prophet Liu Bowen, America’s Sleeping Prophet Edgar Cayce, and French poet and magician Éliphas Lévi.

Violent sandstorms and relentless erosion are reshaping deserts around the world, exposing lost ancient cities and mysterious geological formations. Inside the Kim Kardashian Heist

Paris Fashion Week, 2016. Kim Kardashian, then in production on Keeping Up with the Kardashians Season 14, arrives in Paris with millions of dollars worth of jewellery. But criminals have been tipped off. At 2:30AM on 4 October, two masked gunmen wearing police uniforms burst into her hotel room while Kim is wearing nothing but a bathrobe, hold her at gunpoint, zip-tie her legs together, and snatch nearly $8 million worth of jewellery. Now, there’s more to the story.

Lost Women of Alaska

Octavia Spencer’s production company Orit Entertainment turns its attention to the 2018 and 2019 murders of two Alaska Native women, Veronica Abouchuk and Kathleen Jo Henry. Some unlikely heroes refused to let their cases grow cold, drawing eyes to the growing number of dead Indigenous women dumped along Alaska's Seward Highway who were dismissed as “runaways” or “addicts”. Their case unmasked a South African-born serial killer who ranted about Black people and crime in online forums.

Naked and Afraid

The “Everest” of reality series takes us back into the wilderness, as strangers who have no food, clothes, or water must work together to survive for the next 21 days … or tap out. The series starts with series veteran Matt Wright surprising two survivalists in the Florida Everglades. Trying to make fire in Thailand’s sweltering jungle could snuff out Ky Furneaux and Dan Link. And we find out whether five influencers who’re stranded on a Thai island are survivors, or show-offs.

Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans

To celebrate the series’ 50th season, fans voted on key elements of the game, including Idols, Final Four Fire Making, and whether the reunion show will happen in LA, or in Fiji. Twenty-four players return, including The White Lotus director Mike White (S37), Jenna Lewis-Dougherty (S1), Cirie Fields (S10, S16, S20 and S34), “Coach” Wade (S18, S20 and S23), and Colby Donaldson (S2), while celebs like Billie Eilish and Jimmy Fallon will visit Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands to reveal the twists.

The Challenge: All Stars

Old-school legends, modern power players, redemption-seekers, and ex-lovers from The Real World, Are You The One, and The Challenge reunite in Cape Town to compete for a $300,000 (R4,8m) prize. There are colourful puzzle games, treasure hunts, and bizarre stunts to enjoy, including a challenge that sees the contestants having to wear outsized “bobblehead” masks as they run up a bobsled track. If you’re a long-time fan, you’ll recognise the villa, and elimination arena, from the World Championship.
