Forget the shaving and car cleaning kits, the braai tongs, and those last-minute panic-buy deliveries. This Father’s Day, give him time. 

We’ve hand-picked 10 great series and movies that dad and his pack can enjoy together – no interruptions. And unlike his Father’s Day snack pack, these treats will last all month long – and even into July.

From Taylor Sheridan’s new series Landman and a brand-new season of 1923, to Survivor, and Naked and Afraid’s tough-guy challenges, to heart-melting movies, you’ll find something for every dad. We’ve included details on where to catch up on previous episodes, so dad never has to miss that jaw-dropping moment.

Landman

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan takes us to the oil fields of Texas for Dallas-style drama. Rough-and-ready crisis manager Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) solves problems for M-Tex Oil tycoon Monty Miller (Jon Hamm) and his wife Cami (Demi Moore) at work, while working a “second shift” at home as dad to his rebellious adult son Cooper (Jacob Lofland) and rule-breaking teen princess, Aynsley (Michelle Randolph).

NCIS Origins

We’re going back in time to 1991, to the younger days of NCIS “team dad” Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell). Gibbs has just qualified as a special agent when he joins the ragtag Naval Investigative Service (NIS) team run by Mike Franks (Kyle Schmidt – and played by Muse Matson in the first NCIS series). The series is full of easter eggs for series fans, including the fact that it’s narrated by Mark Harmon, who played Gibbs in the first NCIS series from 2003 until 2021.

Goodrich

With an 85% fresh Rotten Tomatoes rating, this comedy-drama goes beyond the concept of “oh no, a do-nothing dad’s life falls apart when he has to step up and raise his nine-year-old twins by himself for 90 days”. Complex emotions play tug-of-war when dad Andy Goodrich (Michael Keaton) immediately calls his oldest daughter Grace (MIla Kunis), who’s expecting her own child, to beg her to help him be a better dad to the twins than he was to her.

1923

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan brings us a second season of Great Depression-era Dutton family history.  As they face a financial crisis, Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) are forced to hell their herd. Meanwhile Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and his wife Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) follow different paths as they make their way to America. But with Banner Creighton (Jerome Flynn) still lusting over Dutton land, both Jacob and Spencer will be fighting for their lives.

Survivor Season 47

Host Jeff Probst is putting 18 brand new castaways through the wringer. With all the castaways deeply invested in the game, we can expect plenty of emotional exits, backstabbing, strategising and trickery all the way through to a hotly contested final Tribal Council.

My Penguin Friend

In this heart-melting live action movie based on a true story, Brazilian fisherman João Pereira De Souza (Jean Reno) who recently lost his son finds himself with a lifelong friend after he rescues a young Magellanic penguin from an oil spill. After making itself at home in his heart and his house during recovery, the penguin, nicknamed DinDim (and played by 10 different rescue penguins), is able to go back into the wild, but returns every summer to visit his fisherman friend.

Naked and Afraid: Last One Standing

New season, new location, new twists! 14 Naked and Afraid stars brave the Australian Outback’s boiling days, freezing nights, and lethal wildlife for 45 days. With no food, no water, and no clothes, competitors including knife maker Matt Wright, Australian Ky Furneaux, and five-season veterans Suzänne Zeta and Laura Zerra, will be facing elimination challenges along with the environment.

Underdogs

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds hosts this fun, five-episode nature documentary about animals whose key to survival is just being weird. All nature’s seeming mistakes, from terrible parents to total grossouts and uggos, get insulted in the spotlight. Find out why manatees need to fart to survive, while koalas feed their kids poop, and why the honey badger doesn’t care. A big one for dad to watch with the kids!

The Great Celebrity Bake Off Season 7

Nobody is immune to the feel-good appeal of Bake Off. This season’s celebs looking to blow the socks off hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, and judges Prue and Paul, include Doctor Who’s Jodie Whitaker, British-Zimbabwean comedian and social media legend Munya Chawawa in episode 1, diver Tom Daley in episode 3, and Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas in episode four. PS: Taskmaster fans will have someone chaotic to cheer on in each episode.

With Guy Ritchie aboard directing the first two episodes, this British gangland drama series will have Peaky Blinders fans contemplating a wardrobe makeover. As Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) and Maeve Harrigan (Helen Mirren) head the Harrigan crime family, their fixer Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy) needs to find way to prevent encroachment by the Stevenson syndicate, led by Richie Stevenson (Geoff Bell), from turning into a bloody turf war.
