Mzansi Magic Welcomes Fresh New Productions

Mzansi Magic is stepping into an exciting new phase, as it opens its doors to fresh productions and emerging talents. The channel has announced plans to bring in new producers and production houses, paving the way for innovative storytelling and diverse perspectives on local stories that resonate with viewers.

As part of this shift, Mzansi Magic is set to roll out fresh, shorter series that showcase a variety of voices and ideas. While the channel is committed to its beloved programs, it will be saying goodbye to some long-running shows to make room for new and captivating content.

Two of Mzansi Magic’s most popular telenovelas, Umkhokha: The Curse and My Brother’s Keeper, will be concluding in 2025. These shows have become fan favorites over their two-season runs, offering memorable moments and powerful performances.

Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Channels at M-Net, expressed gratitude for the impact of these shows on South African storytelling: “Umkhokha: The Curse and My Brother’s Keeper have truly highlighted the incredible talent we have in Mzansi. From the brilliant minds of our writers and producers to the powerful performances of our actors, these shows have brought our stories to life in a way that resonates deeply with audiences. We are deeply grateful to Rhythm World Productions and the outstanding cast and crew who turned these shows into the phenomenon they have become.”

Umkhokha: The Curse originally premiered as a 13-part series, but its intense and gripping narrative quickly won over audiences, leading to its expansion into a full-fledged telenovela. Known for its compelling storylines and memorable music, the show even released a gospel album, Wonk’ AmaJudiya, capturing themes that resonate with viewers.

Meanwhile, My Brother’s Keeper captivated fans with its star-studded cast and dynamic plotlines, from the stern family patriarch Mshengu (played by Lindani Nkosi) to the humorous misadventures of brothers Donga (Sdumo Mtshali) and Nqubeko (Wiseman Mncube). The vibrant characters, including Fakazile (Zola Nombona), Ndumiso (Nkanyiso Mchunu), and Nomsa (Vuyiseka Cawe), added their own flair, making the show a must-watch.

"We’re incredibly grateful to our loyal viewers and want to assure them that 2025 is set to be even more sensational! We have fresh and exciting content coming up - something bold, something new! So, do stay tuned for all the exciting updates on our upcoming local shows!" says Adonisi.

Umkhokha: The Curse will wrap up in February 2025, with My Brother’s Keeper following in April 2025. Until then, the drama continues! Don’t miss the thrilling final episodes of My Brother’s Keeper weekdays at 7:30 PM and Umkhokha: The Curse at 8:30 PM, only on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161).
